Why is it a good idea to unscrew the injection nipples on injection packers?
When performing pressure injection, even small components can make it easier to monitor the progress of the work. One such solution is the ability to unscrew the injection nipple from the installed injection packer.
Removing the injection nipple allows the open bore of the packer to be used during hole preparation and the injection process. In practice, this solution can serve several important functions.
Ventilation During Injection
An open packer can allow air to escape from the space being filled. This is particularly useful during injection through successive packers, as the appearance of material at an adjacent point can indicate its flow within the injected space.
Cleaning the opening
After installing the packer and unscrewing the injection nipple, you gain access to the borehole. Depending on the technology used, this may make it easier to blow out or flush the borehole before beginning the actual injection.
This allows you to prepare the hole for further work without having to disassemble the entire packer.
Injector Flow Control
Unscrewing the injection nipples can also make it easier to observe the movement of the grout. The appearance of grout in an adjacent packer provides the contractor with additional information about the progress of the process and can help determine the order in which to continue the injection.
Once a given stage is complete, the injection nipple can be reinstalled and work can continue in accordance with the established procedure.
