Spraying waterproofing

Spraying waterproofing is a modern technology for fast and seamless application of protective coatings on building structures. It is used primarily to protect large areas of foundations, roofs, terraces, tanks and underground parts of buildings.

The main reasons for using this method:

The need to reduce the time of work on large meters, the need to achieve a seamless coating, and the high precision of application on irregular and complex substrates.

Division of methods by type of pumping equipment:

Depending on the specific design, viscosity and chemical base of the material, pumps are divided into two ways:

  1. Due to the way the material is sprayed:
  • Pumps that require a compressor – where compressed air from an external source is used to break up and atomize the fed material on the surface.
  • Airless (hydrodynamic) pumps – which do not require a compressor, and the material is sprayed only under the influence of very high hydraulic pressure squeezed out by a precision nozzle.
  1. Due to the pumping mechanism:
  • Peristaltic pumps – pumping material by extrusion in the pump mechanism, which ensures very gentle, non-heating and safe feeding of insulating materials.
  • Screw pumps – using the mechanism of a rotating screw (rotor and stator), ideal for continuous transport and application of dense coating masses with fine filling.
  • Piston pumps – which generate very high pressure by means of reciprocating motion of the piston. They allow high viscosity materials to be pumped over considerable distances.

Selection of materials and application parameters

In spray technology, the key is to select a material that is adapted to the type of equipment and site conditions:

  • Mineral materials: Flexible, polymer-modified cementitious slurries and microslurries, ideal for waterproofing on stable concrete and masonry substrates.
  • Hybrid materials: modern coatings (e.g., mineral-polymer) that combine the advantages of different technologies. They are characterized by excellent Crack bridging, excellent adhesion and the ability to combine with other systems (bitumen, slurries).
  • For bituminous waterproofing materials: Thick-layer plastic-modified compounds and emulsions (KMB), commonly used for heavy vertical and horizontal foundation waterproofing.
