The Tramex Moisture Encounter 5 is a non-destructive meter designed to detect moisture in most building materials. As the ME5 wood moisture meter, it provides accurate moisture content readings in percent. The ME5 also functions as a moisture meter for drywall, plaster, roofing materials, roof tiles, and masonry, helping to determine moisture levels in walls, ceilings, and floors.
Design of a Moisture Meter
The ME5 moisture meter detects and assesses the moisture content in various building materials through non-destructive electrical impedance measurement. A low-frequency electronic signal is transmitted into the material via electrodes located in the device’s base. The strength of this signal varies in proportion to the amount of moisture in the material being tested. The ME5 moisture meter measures the current and converts it into a moisture reading, which is displayed on a large, clear analog dial.
Dual-Depth Moisture Meter
The dual-depth feature on the ME5 allows you to determine where moisture is located within the material. Shallow-depth readings, up to 10 mm (⅜`), and deep-depth readings, up to 30 mm (1¼`), can be used to compare surface and core moisture content and to eliminate the influence of the substrate when testing coatings.
This general-purpose moisture meter detects moisture through paint, wallpaper, drywall, ceramic tiles, floor coverings, wood, ceiling panels, roofing membranes, and asphalt shingles, making it the best moisture meter for testing in, through, and behind a wide variety of building materials.
Moisture Maps and Data Documentation
Moisture readings can be visualized using the Tramex Meters App and converted into moisture maps, reports, and charts for sharing. Bluetooth connectivity with mobile devices also helps with geotagging test results and creating, saving, and sharing photos.
Properties:
- 5 Sensitivity Ranges: Wood & Timber / Shallow Depth / Drywall & Roofing / Plaster & Tile / Masonry.
- The dual penetration depth allows for a comparison of surface and core moisture content and eliminates the influence of the substrate on coating testing.
- Deep signal penetration, up to 30 mm (1¼`) in wood and drywall, detects elevated moisture levels through most surface materials without damaging or puncturing the materials being tested.
- The shallow depth gauge is designed for penetration depths of up to 10 mm (⅜ inch).
- A wide range of readings from 5% to 30% on the Wood Scale and from 0 to 100 on the comparative scale for all other materials.
- It detects moisture through paint, wallpaper, drywall, ceramic tiles, floor coverings, wood, ceiling panels, roofing membranes, and asphalt shingles.
- Bluetooth connectivity with a companion iOS & Android app that enables continuous development and integration of the app and reporting features.
- The Hold function allows the user to “freeze” the reading, which is useful when taking readings in places where the meter dial may be obscured.
- An audible high-humidity warning signal that can be turned on or off.
- A large, easy-to-read analog display that provides clear readings.
- Durable, ergonomic housing.
