Crack injections (sealing and structural strengthening)
Crack injection is one of the fundamental repair technologies in modern construction. It is used to effectively seal and structurally strengthen concrete, reinforced concrete and masonry structures. When carried out correctly, the procedure makes it possible to effectively restore the tightness of the object, and in many cases – also the full structural continuity of the repaired element.
What is a crack?
Crack is a narrow crack or fissure in a building material that occurs when the stresses present in the structure exceed its natural strength.
The main causes of cracks:
Shrinkage of concrete, overloading , uneven settlement of the object or soil, execution and design errors, thermal and moisture fluctuations, corrosion of reinforcement.
Division of cracks by their nature:
Depending on the behavior of the crack in the structure, we distinguish between static and dynamic cracks. Proper identification of the nature of the crack (static or dynamic) is a key condition for the selection of the appropriate technology and injection material.
Selection of injection materials
Injection technology uses two main types of binders, selected according to the type of substrate:
-
Mineral materials (microcements): Used most often to repair and fill cracks in brick structures and traditional masonry.
-
Resin materials (such as polyurethane or epoxy resins): Commonly used for repairing cracks in reinforced concrete and concrete structures, where high adhesion and resistance to specific material conditions are required.
